Asset care maintenance for global chemical manufacturer

March undertake significant 24 hour asset care for their client, a leading multi billion pound manufacturing company.

History

A March client for over 17 years, our client is a global paints and coatings brand for whom we provide mechanical and electrical maintenance services, as well as project engineering support.

March colleagues work across the site in Stowmarket, and are the sole engineering resource for preventive, corrective and reactive maintenance.

Solution

The March team, consisting of daywork and shift technicians, PLC / software specialists and an apprentice, ensures the continued and safe operation of critical assets in the site’s manufacturing area.

Equipment such as air blowers, high-speed dispersers, mixers and rotary valves, receive directed inspections to identify and rectify degradation before failure.

March also carries out maintenance tasking on seven filling lines within two filling halls. The lines require specialist engineering attention to ensure production targets are met each day and our team works closely with the client operations staff to help ensure the efficient running of the lines.

Reactive work is carried out primarily by the multi-skilled shift technicians but can be supported by the daywork team. Fast and comprehensive support with detailed equipment knowledge is essential to ensure the continued reliability of the assets. Serious or repeat equipment failures are analysed by the team using reliability techniques such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Resulting actions form part of the team’s Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) and on numerous occasions, valuable cost savings or significant cost avoidance have been achieved.

Results

March carries out routine Condition Monitoring, including thermographic, acoustic, vibration and oil sampling analysis. This allows the team to spot developing failures without intrusion to production. Remedial actions re pro-actively planned, according to their severity, avoiding breakdowns and the resulting negative impact on production.

Health and Safety is a key priority for all team members working on-site and March has an excellent track record winning many client awards for our approach to creating a safe working environment.
