Expertise
March has been trusted by key UK industries for decades. We understand the challenges that business faces in terms of productivity, competition, cost control, safety, security and compliance.
March were tasked with providing condition based monitoring on their client, a global supplier of food and beverage ingredients, recirculation pumps.
The client recirculation pump is on 24/7 duty.
The pump was experiencing poor reliability, identified during a reactive maintenance strategy.
The common failures of worn housing and mechanical seal fails would then cause collateral damage to other components. The spend on spare parts had become excessive so Musk was tasked with providing a new strategy.
March conducted root cause analysis and reliability centred maintenance studies on the pump.
A new strategy of predictive maintenance was implemented, consisting of line walks and monthly condition based monitoring in the form of vibration analysis.
Initial vibration analysis showed elevated vibration levels. Equipment was in deteriorating condition. The second vibration analysis showed increased vibration levels and even further deterioration. March CBM engineers identified that a bearing change was required.
Post-bearing change, vibration has now returned to expected levels. The repair was implemented before the pump could fail and avoided damage to any other pump components
The new predictive maintenance strategy is expected to save the client £30,000 per annum in spares and significantly improve the mean time between failure for this critical production equipment.
