Mechanical & Electrical services for a listed building

March provided the Mechanical and Electrical solution on Phase 4 of a Grade A listed refurbishment project in Scotland.

History

Built in 1818 as the major Customs and Excise facilities and designed by architect William Burns this grand and imposing neoclassical Doric structure still dominates the Greenock Quayside and the Clyde estuary in one of the most dramatic locations in Scotland.

March was appointed by the client to provide the Mechanical and Electrical solution on Phase 4 of the Custom House refurbishment project in Greenock.

Solution

March was responsible for fitting of all of the showcase light fixings which were in harmony with the design of the first three phases.

The Halo style fittings were installed in the main hallway, in the feature ‘Long room’ and in all the adjacent office spaces to give a stylish and contemporary look to the project.

The feature lighting piece was a three-tier halo centre piece was suspended from the ceiling and fixed to the walls high above the main foyer.

Mechanical & Electrical services

The lighting on the main stairwells and on the reception area arches were recessed into the walls, while floor boxes were also installed in the offices to provide both power and data.

Track lighting was installed in the interpretation room as well as the first-floor meeting room, while the toilets were kitted out with new spot lighting and hand dryers.

March was also responsible for the installation of upgraded heating services to the ground and first floor access areas.  Domestic services were also installed to the first-floor toilets and tea prep along with new ventilation systems.

Alterations were also made to the existing fan units and ductwork, which were upgraded to include automatic controls for all of the heating zones. The heating services were connected to existing risers with pipework concealed under the floors to the column radiators and trench heating.
