Expertise
March has been trusted by key UK industries for decades. We understand the challenges that business faces in terms of productivity, competition, cost control, safety, security and compliance.
March was appointed to undertake a process safety project, implementing a solution to bring the process up to the required safety standards.
March was engaged by the client for the delivery of the IEC61511 compliant Safety Instrumented System for their validated pharmaceutical plant.
March’s functional Safety engineers took an active role in the Hazop process to identify the safety instrumented functions and selected a programmable safety solution for the client that allowed the team to accommodate changes as the process design evolves.
The Hardware solution included a failsafe processor, high integrity networks and Safe I/O, captured in a detailed Hardware Design Specifications, part of the IEC61511 Life Cycle.
March specified the Safety Instrumented System up to safety integrity level SIL3 in accordance with IEC 61508:2010 and Performance Level (PL) e and category 4 in accordance with ISO 13849-1:2006 or EN ISO 13849-1:2008.
It had been determined by the Hazop team that all safety circuits will conform to EN13849-1 standard, Category 3, Performance level (PL) d Following the compilation of the electrical design, the SRS documentation was compiled to verify the integrity of the Safety Instrumented Functions.
The interface between the Safety System and the Basic Process Control System over a communication network allowed the development of robust HMI status providing detailed information on all safety circuits. This project was delivered to GAMP standard (Good Automated Manufacturing Process), required to provide our pharmaceutical customers with validation evidence throughout the project life cycle.
