Expertise
March has been trusted by key UK industries for decades. We understand the challenges that business faces in terms of productivity, competition, cost control, safety, security and compliance.
March Academy has made a powerful contribution to the success of our people, and to UK engineering, since it was established.
Our people drive our success, delivering the outstanding engineering that has forged our reputation. Through the Academy, we nurture a unique learning culture. It’s how we ensure that our engineers, support teams and leaders are multi-skilled and stand out from the crowd.
March Academy is how we address the skills gap in engineering and shape the industries of the future.
We want to help everyone reach their potential, and the March Academy offers training opportunities for all our people, whatever stage they are at in their career. From apprentices to senior leaders, we give everyone the multidisciplinary skills to flourish and to see the bigger picture.
We know that many industries face an engineering skills shortage, and our Academy helps to address that. It also encourages talented people to stay with us and significantly enhances our capabilities as an organisation. Excellence in multidisciplinary skills is a key strategic commitment that encourages powerful collaboration with colleagues, partners and customers.
March Academy courses are delivered through three purpose-built training centres across the UK, supported by best-in-class online training, and specialist external trainers. We also provide wellbeing courses to support our people, and help them support others. We want our people to succeed and give them all the support we can.
Our customers are navigating a rapidly changing landscape of supply chain pressures, skills gaps, rising costs and geopolitical disruption. And as AI quickly finds more and more practical applications, demand for digital transformation is accelerating.
Properly implemented, the digital transformation of a business significantly improves efficiency, drives innovation, enhances the customer experience and brings a powerful competitive edge. That’s why an important part of our Academy is the development of multi-disciplinary digital expertise across all our people – highly practical skills that drive our business, help our customers and enrich the wider engineering community.
The success of our business is driven by the skills of our people. And the expertise we develop through our Academy is already driving a digital transformation within March. Every day, we see the benefits of that expertise enhancing our customer partnerships.
March is developing the next generation of engineering talent through apprenticeships. We enable people who are new to the industry to work, learn and earn at the same time, supporting them on their way to an industry-recognised qualification.
In England, we work with the Education & Skills Funding Agency to provide apprenticeships in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. We also offer Business Administration apprenticeships to those wishing to join us in areas such as HR and Finance. And in Scotland, we support the Modern Apprenticeships initiative available through Skills Development Scotland. We currently offer Modern Apprenticeships in Electrical, Mechanical (HVAC), Building Services, Finance, IT, Commercial, Helpdesk and Administration.
Join us as an apprentice and you will quickly find yourself working in a skilled occupation, trained by experts, and supported by the team around you. The training is substantial, lasting a minimum of 12 months and involving at least 20% off-the-job training. You will develop a wealth of transferable skills as you work towards full capability in your role, backed up by the achievement of an apprenticeship standard.
Our apprentices enrich our team, and go on to make a valuable impact across the industries they work in. We’re very proud of the contribution we make to their careers, and the contribution they make to March.
We support our people along every step of their career, from apprentices to senior leaders, and everyone in between. The learning and development opportunities available through our March Academy include:
We also provide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for everyone in the business. Whatever stage you are in your career, we will help you develop fresh skills, expand your learning and fulfil your ambitions.
Join March and we will never stop supporting you, from apprentice to director and every step between.
Inspirational leaders, attuned to the needs of a modern workforce and the demands of competitive markets, are critical to our continued success. We nurture promising leaders at an early stage, helping them with tailor-made programmes that map out their strengths and identify the developmental opportunities that will fulfil their potential.
Our extensive management development programmes build skills in areas such as managing people, leading people, building relationships, communication, operational management, project management, finance and self-awareness, decision making and problem solving.
For those ready to take on more responsibility, our Director Development Programme develops expertise in governance, financial controls, understanding the business environment, stakeholder communication, risk management, planning & scheduling, contract management, project justification and quality management.
We believe that the depth and detail of these modules, and the quality of our trainers, is reflected in the outstanding management skills that make March such valuable and supportive project partners.
But of course, exceptional leadership is another step beyond that, and our Leadership Development programme helps to shape outstanding qualities at board director level. At this stage, we focus on strategy, innovation, enterprise, risk, finance, employee engagement and collaborative relationships.
As part of our aim to build the engineers of the future, and to support our customers in every way, we offer March Academy training to our customer’s people as well.
Academy training partnerships enable us to share our multidisciplinary engineering training with our customers and their teams. Whether it’s to expand their skillsets, or for joined-up practical training on new systems and processes provided by March. Who better to train your staff than the people who designed and installed their new processes and controls?
