Renewable install adds 10,000 kwh per year

March was appointed to undertake a mechanical and renewable installation on a College’s new 1.4m Low Carbon Teaching Building.

History

The new £1.4m Low Carbon Teaching Building for the South Lanarkshire College is located on their main campus.

The Low Carbon Building was the first in the UK to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating in the BREEAM 2014 new construction assessment process, excelling in every category (Management, Health + Wellbeing, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use + Ecology, Pollution and Innovation) achieving an overall score of 92%.

The brief for March was to provide a new mechanical and renewable installation for the eight classroom building that provided multi-purpose learning facilities for a range of purposes, from daily teaching of the three main college departments, Business, Care and Construction, to providing facilities and hosting workshops for the local and business communities.

Solution

March worked as part of the team that delivered this very unique project.

The scope of works consisted of new plant items, ground source heat pumps, extract fans, pumps and pressurisation unit, all of which, serve both floors of the building.

Finishing’s include underfloor heating, local water heaters, sanitaryware & grilles.

March also carried out the design, supply, install and commission of a 14kw roof-mounted solar PV system.

Results

The roof-mounted array is estimated to supply over 10,000 kWh per year to the building’s electricity demand.

The system was tested & commissioned and handed over to a very satisfied client.
