March has been trusted by key UK industries for decades. We understand the challenges that business faces in terms of productivity, competition, cost control, safety, security and compliance.
March was engaged by a national utilities company and government agency to undertake a two-year long contract to modernise and refurbish their Pumping Station.
One of Britain’s largest pumping station when it was built in 1979 its giant pumps take water from the reservoir, out of a main river, and transfer it through a tunnel to other main rivers.
The client set out to modernise its pumping station over the course of two years.
March was involved in the refurbishment of the site, including all four of the pumps – making them more effective and energy-efficient. Alterations included changing the pumps from 11 kV to 6 kV, resulting in significant savings on power, efficiency and running costs.
March modernised the site by implementing new electrical equipment including the main control panel that monitors and regulates the pumps.
The team also delivered the automation aspects of the site plant and equipment including:
• 5 Allen Bradley Compact Logix PLCs.
• 2 HMIs.
• Dual Redundant Fibre Optic Ethernet Communications Network.
• Replaced 2 existing Telemetry Outstations with one new Outstation.
• Device Level Ring to allow PLC to communicate with New Variable Speed Drives.
March successfully delivered the project to time and under budget – contributing to the overall project success.
As a direct result of March’s contributions to the contract, the Pumping Station is now more robust, reliable and energy-efficient – ensuring a reliable supply of water into the future.
