March was appointed to deliver the M&E design and build services for a Gin Distillery in the Scottish Highlands.
The client, a 5,400 square-foot distillery in Speyside in the Scottish Highlands, was commissioned to turn spirits production in Speyside on its head by opting to create a Scottish gin and vodka as opposed to Scotch whisky, which the region is famous for.
The distillery is located in a country estate and therefore has no access to the gas network and limited access to an electrical supply. Priority was given to ensuring optimum floor space for the process equipment any future reconfiguration of the equipment, therefore the challenge was undertaking the installation within these parameters.
March installed an LPG boiler with an LPHW heating system to serve the process and welfare areas. High-level radiant panel heat emitters were also installed to ensure that floor space was kept to a maximum.
Natural ventilation was utilised with the use of temperature-controlled wall mounted louvres to dissipate the heat from the process area during peak operation periods. The louvres could not be kept permanently open as cold temperatures and freezing would be a hazard due to the location and remoteness of the distillery.
